Ok, so I have been following/buying crypto domains for a few years. They are finally starting to ease into their own and could easily become a norm as platforms like Brave and existing platforms like … *Cough* Chrome *Cough* … start to provide support to .x, .crypto’s, and .nft even if it does take a plugin or some security configuration to make it work.
The current ease of use is really a problem. Platforms like Unstoppable Domains are tackling larger problems like purchasing minting and even initial “hosting”. However long-term support is still confusing and will require more research for your average user. The average person is going to have to either be in the tech community or watch an unhealthy amount of youtube before they start to figure it out.
On the bright side, they are going to feel like straight-up hackers. They will start sucking on lolli-pops and calling themselves crash & burn. Instead of Karen & Tom. Not to mention the real problem … look at this price tag (Below). Yeah so they are selling for let’s say the cost of an old Toyota truck (Also Below)! But the upside is just like that truck you really don’t have to pay for it again unless you want to use it a whole lot and will last … forever?
So what are the other cool things you can do? So if you really are cool you could use your domain and link it to your crypto wallet and allow for transactions so instead of sending your money to this long alphanumeric string from hell you can just ask people to send it to a name that is closer to your Xbox username … yeah I see you BlazeTrees42069.x … I am coming for you by the way you noob tubing SOB.
Sorry, that was a bad one.
Ok so it’s not all that great yet due to accessibility however just like QR codes where we never thought we would see them again until COVID hit and now they are even on tv ads. So I suspect there will be some digital environmental effects that create a reason for more people to start using Crypto Domains. However, as with everything in crypto there are many moving parts and everything is owned by everyone and there are still things like DNS. There are blockchain DNS companies and solutions that allow for a decentralized DNS server that permits the registration, management, and resolution of domain names on the blockchain. But this still leads me to ask questions like … who’s server?
Nonetheless, it is not stopping me from filling up the truck and trudging begrudgingly into the digital blue yonder.
